Look at the map of Middle-earth. What do you see? There are shores, rivers, forests... and mountains. The great mountain range of Hithaeglir running almost all the way from north to south, the distinct shape of Mordor, bordered with walls of mountains on three sides... What you see is our theme for August - Mountains.
They give shape to the country - it would be a dull and flat world without them! But to travelers, they can be an obstacle, and a cause of many troubles and/or adventures. The crossing of the Misty Mountains was perilous for Thorin's company just like for the Fellowship of the Ring. At the end, both had to find a way beneath them.
But despite the hardship connected with getting across them, they have their own wild and majestic beauty. They make people feel small in their presence, unchanging as the kingdoms rise and fall. Only immortals can see how the mountains move and how the land changes its shape.
Your story or picture should feature mountains - any of those you can find in Middle-earth. As we said, it is an ideal stage for adventures, so we hope this theme will inspire you!
