Our theme for March is "Return of the Light". In many lands, March signifies the break of winter's reign and the beginning of spring. In Middle Earth of the Third Age, this takes on an even deeper meaning: March is the month when Sauron was overthrown; when Aragorn was born and, many years later, crowned; when Gandalf rescued Theoden King from darkness.
Tolkien describes Aragorn's coronation and his wedding to Arwen. But how did the commoners celebrate even before the soldiers returned home? The elves had their own battles to fight during this time. What was it like when Mirkwood was renamed Eryn Lasgalen?
If you prefer a more somber story, tell us of those wives of Gondor, Rohan, and the elven realms who waited in vain for their husbands to return from battle, while watching the joyous reunions of other families. Or of the child who realizes that their older brother won't be home again.
The stories are only as limited as your imaginations, and we know those have no bounds!
Your story must include Aragorn, Legolas, or both. It isn’t important if they are main characters as long as they are mentioned. You can write about other familiar faces or create your own original characters to share.
