In most parts of the northern hemisphere, August is a month for taking a vacation and going somewhere
to take a break from everyday life. In that spirit, our Teitho theme for this month is Journeys.
When Lord of the Rings fans consider a journey, probably the first we think of is the Quest itself.
But Tolkien touched on many journeys. How did Strider deal with his prisoner Gollum as they traveled
from the Marshes to Mirkwood? What about his earlier journeys, in which he'd shaped his character as
leader of the rangers?
What did it mean to Legolas to leave home behind and move to Gondor? Did he ever wish to turn back?
What made many of his elves follow their prince into an unknown world, forsaking the safety of home?
And what of those elves who choose to make the ultimate journey - sail and leave Middle-earth forever?
Of course, there are many journeys of a different nature: passing from childhood to adulthood, turning
away from immortality and embracing mortal life, shedding Ranger rags for Royal garb. Our heroes and
their loved ones learned much during their time on Arda. Which of them calls to you to write their story?
As usual, Aragorn and Legolas donít have to be the main characters, but at least one of them must be mentioned.
